Sussman/Prezja & Co.
Independent design consultant for the 1984 Los Angeles Olympic Games
1984

Sussman/Prejza were co-design directors in creating the ‘look’ of the 1984 Olympics in Los Angeles, an undertaking that encompassed forty-three art sites, twenty-eight game venues and three villages. As part of a team of independent designers and architects working together, we employed the “kit-of-parts” visual alphabet to the disparate venues. Also included were vehicular and pedestrian wayfinding signs, transportation signs, facility identification signs, and graphics. LA84 were the first games to truly become a global television event. The broadcast was seen by the largest audience in history at that time. Knowing this, the designers focused on elements that would translate well on the small screen, with bright colors and big graphic impact.
